Delara is Chef Bardia Ilbeiggi’s homage to his roots in Iran and his passion for cooking. Serving a humble, seasonal menu reflecting the key elements of Persian cuisine.
Had dine out with extra charge for lamb and beef. Beef was tasty lamb shank passable. While it is a Michelin mentioned place this does not mean that all dishes are tasty. One has to luck out with beef dish. Roasted cauliflower I have had better. Price is just too high so will say not good value for money. On cold days the place can get cold. Atmosphere is more like cafeteria style. Some may find tables too close. Cakes / dessert just sound fancy with fancy ingredients but taste nothing special
Our experience at Delara was disappointing. Despite having a reservation, we were rushed to order and told we had to leave by a certain time. The limited Dine Out menu was mandatory, with no flexibility.Staff were rude, rushing us through our meal and even bringing desserts to-go before we finished eating. When we asked for boxes, they were thrown on the table. The food was just as bad as the service. The Fesenjoon with duck was terrible, the duck leg had a strong, unpleasant smell. The Ghalieh was completely tasteless. The only good part was the appetizer, the bread and one of the dips were decent. That’s it.For a Michelin-recommended restaurant, this was unacceptable. Never going back!
We had a reservation at the restaurant and once we arrived we ordered the food from the dinner menu. The worst thing about the restaurant was the service the waitress brought our main course 50 minutes after the appetizer they even didn’t ask us if we need anything during the meal. However, the atmosphere was really good.
The food was quite overrated. As for the service, it was downright unpleasant. The server came across as intimidating and somewhat rude, which made the experience even less enjoyable.
Disappointing Experience – Not Recommended - Rude StaffOur visit to Delara Restaurant was truly disappointing. The staff were extremely rude, making us feel unwelcome from the start. We were a group of six with a reservation, but one couple was delayed by about 20 minutes due to traffic. The first waitress repeatedly asked us to order quickly because they had another reservation for our table at 7 PM. I have never been to a restaurant where the staff tells you upfront that you have to leave by a specific time, it was shocking and unprofessional. To make matters worse, they were offering a limited Dine Out menu for February, which included an appetizer, main course, and dessert. While this would have been fine as an option, we were forced to order from it, with no choice to skip dessert or appetizers. The lack of flexibility was frustrating, especially given the high price.During our meal, another waitress rudely told us to hurry up because the next reservation was coming. We were still eating our main course when she insisted on bringing our desserts to-go, rushing us in the most disrespectful way. When we asked for boxes for two of the desserts, she literally threw the boxes on the table and walked away. For a restaurant recommended by the Michelin Guide, this kind of service is completely unacceptable. The experience was a total waste of money, time, and respect.Never going backabsolutely not recommended!
I would give this place 6/5 if I could. Delara gives you an experience that no other Persian restaurants in Metro Vancouver can provide. I've heard a lot of good things and I finally decided to give it a try with a group of friends. The atmosphere and ambience was lovely. The choice of music which I think is very important was spot on, with loads of nostalgic classy Persian music. Our server Farzin went above and beyond to make sure we are comfortable and helped us with making decisions on drinks and food. The cocktails sounded very tasty and we got to try some. The pomegranate Margarita was my fave.I would 100% recommend this place for special occasions since it's a bit on the pricy side.
Had a delicious lunch here, with lovely service.Tried the braised lamb shoulder sandwich and baghali ghatogh (white bean and dill stew) with crispy rice, and both were superb. There were so many other nice sounding things on the menu, so I look forward to trying them at some point! Our server was attentive, even though they seemed to be responsible for all of the tables during lunch service, giving good food and drink recommendations. It was nice to be sat by the open window as well, getting the benefit of the nice weather and the beautiful interior.
Food was tasty and and lamb was very tender, but overpriced for a small bowl of rice and a little meat. Everything else tasted of saffron. Desert baklava was so so. Service was slow.
The taste of the food was excellent and delicious. However, the portion of rice served with the stews was significantly less compared to the volume of the stews. The portion of stew was abundant for one person, while the rice portion was insufficient for one person, and the prices were very high. It's good for a one-time trial.
Opportunity missed… We tried this place as it was a recommendation and was a mention by Michelin when they visited last. The food was unique and presented well what was missing was service and explanations. The dishes are quite large and filling so I would definitely share (which we did not) . Service could be more engaging and help as I was out my league with how the menu worked, drinks etc.
My favourite place in Vancouver forever, I was married to a Persian for a couple years, and the only good thing about him. It was his culture, I adore Persian cuisine and has become part of my life. This place really brings up the best of the history of the cuisine at its finest! I absolutely adore the staff and the food it’s made with love.
Went here to try out the dine out Vancouver festival menu and came out extremely full! I will say it’s a good deal but given that it’s part of the Michellin suggested restaurants I had very high expectations which is why I gave the food 3 stars. The food tasted decent, I liked the Grilled sourdough glad bread the best, the sauces were really good and the braised beef was pretty good too. The interior of the restaurant was pretty and elegant. I will suggest making a reservation as it gets busy. Overall, I will recommend it for the experience.
Tried this place for the Dine Out menu and while my expectations were high, my experience just fell short. Everything was just… fine. Not exceptional, not standout. The olives (not part of Dine Out) and chicken soup were quite tasty and had complex flavour profiles. I found that everything else was a bit one dimensional and lacked seasoning. Everything could do with a generous pinch of salt. Portions were big, but they didn’t have to be. Id rather less, and more memorable. It lacked the modern, sophisticated restaurant touch, I felt. The restaurant ambience felt a bit off too. Things in the bar and kitchen seemed messy. I was a bit put off seeing large containers of food sitting around on the counters. Dirty glasses at the bar, etc. all in all, not something that I would want to experience again.
