A brand-new spot for Persian eats has just moved into the neighborhood.
Akbar Joojeh officially opened its doors earlier this week at 1604 Lonsdale Avenue, offering traditional Persian-style chicken dishes.
As for its menu, the restaurant serves a selection of mains like chicken with plum stew, lamb shoulder with dill rice, and tender kebabs. You can also expect side dishes like saffron spinach yogurt, marinated olives, and beetroot yogurt, in addition to family platters with a combination of several dishes. Akbar Joojeh also has a sweet selection of desserts, including buttered baklava and saffron ice cream with faloodeh.
We had such a wonderful dining experience here! Everything we ordered was so good! We shared four main dishes between 6 of us, because we are on vacation and didn’t have a space to take leftovers. And we still had quite a bit of food leftover that we couldn't take with us. So its a really great value! I highly recommend any of the sour kebabs and the special tea!
One of the priorities of any restaurant is its cleanliness. Very dirty bathroom. The dining area inside is full of cobwebs. We sat outside and saw a mouse eating meat behind the kitchen. Behind the kitchen means inside the restaurant. I took a photo and left it to show with a document. This was the last time I came to this restaurant. Are the employees of Akbar Joojeh as dirty as in their homes?!!
Hands down the best Persian food I tried in Vancouver. The food come in very large portions and we could share one. However we ordered two and had the leftover boxed to go. The waitress was attentive, nice, and helpful.
Mirzaghasemi, koobideh, and Akbar joojeh are my favorite dishes in that restaurant. The restaurant space is small but very friendly, and I really enjoyed the food
I recently dined at Akbar Joojeh and overall had a pleasant experience. The ambiance was lovely, the service was attentive, and the location was convenient. However, I must note that I was slightly disappointed with the quality of the food. While it was presented nicely, the taste and freshness did not quite meet my expectations. I hope the restaurant can work on improving this aspect, as everything else was top-notch."
We visited this restaurant for first time around 4 pm in a weekend and didn’t wait that long to be seated. The appetizer ( Mirzaghasemi) came very early with freshly baked bread and we loved it (however it would be better if they used fresh tomato puree instead of tomato paste, just suggesting), Vaziri kebabs were so tender and juicy. Both beef and saffron chicken kebab were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Lamb shoulder seemed pretty slow cooked and so delicious too and dill rice was soft and fluffy. Service was great and servers were so attentive and polite. We enjoyed the ambiance and hope this business keeps the good quality.
Super tasty, big portions, interesting vibe and interior design, lovely nostalgic Persian music. The kitchen staff were friendly and respectful. The waitress could get a bit of more training. Highly recommended.Book a table in advance, otherwise you might have to wait for a table.
Amazing food and very cozy atmosphere! Lots of delicious options to choose from including their signature “Akbar Joojeh”. When we visited, it had only been 25 days since their grand opening and we were delighted with the friendly staff and delicious food. We had a chance to meet the owner, Mr. Shandiz, as well who greeted all his guests at their tables and welcomed them. This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip in Vancouver. The dishes are beautifully presented and full of flavour. Looking forward to a location opening in Toronto!
Our very first dining experience at this restaurant was quite an adventure! I decided to try the Akbar Jooje, and it was decent, but what really needs a little TLC is the service.During our first visit, they mentioned a 20-minute wait for our table, but it ended up being over an hour, and the food took its sweet time to arrive as well. But here's the kicker: this wasn't a one-off. On a previous visit, they promised a table in 30 minutes and said they'd give us a ring, but that call never came.In a friendly way, I'd say they've got some room for improvement in the consistency and timing of their service. 😉🍽️
